HOUSING AND COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE
Background: This project is located in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Apartadó; where most people don't even have their basic sanitary needs met.
Project Description: Thanks to Fair Trade, a housing solution was offered to 64 families of banana employees who work in Fair Trade Certified farms. Thanks to the social premium, these 64 workers were granted a loan to buy a duplex that count with 775 sq.ft, 3 rooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, a study and a balcony. The construction was funded by the social premium and implemented by Fundaunibán who supervised and managed the adjudication of the project.
Impact: About 640 people have benefited from this project. In addition to giving these 64 workers access to a new home, it has also provided the community with employment opportunities, thus improving its quality of life. Another 48 duplexes are being built that eventually will benefit another 48 families.
