SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
Background: Many children in Urabá lived a tough childhood because their parents were killed or they were forced to move from the place they used to live. Therefore, they became a vulnerable target for illegal groups to enlarge their troops in exchange of food or even revenge.
Project Description: Aware of that risk, Fundaunibán has been working for the past 6 years, in alliance with the Colombian government, with 600 vulnerable children that have been displaced and victims of violence to learn to play a musical instrument instead of learning to use a gun.
Impact: These kids found in music an alternative to escape from the rough past they faced where violence seemed to be the only road they could chase.

"Since I started in Batuta,
I have learnt so many
things, besides music,
I've learnt how to enjoy
and respect others. I've
met a lot of people, but
the most important is that
I've learnt to be more
responsible."
- Katherine Giraldo,
Member of the Batuta Orchestra
