SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
Background: In the rural areas of Urabá, schools didn't count either with the proper installations or with the proper human resources to offer a suitable education. Children were of different ages and grades yet counted with only one or two teachers and classrooms for all of them.
Project Description: In 2009 Fundaunibán implemented a new type of school called “the new school" which focuses on auto-learning practices where students from different grades can be together in the same classroom with the same teacher learning according to their level. It requires a permanent interaction between students, parents, educators and other members of the community in order to acquire a well-rounded knowledge.
Impact: Children from rural areas in Urabá now count with an alternative when it comes to education.
"The new school" methodology has triggered enthusiasm for learning and developing new competences among children.
